Irrigation: 100HP BELLE™ Single-Phase Motor Replaces Diesel Engine
Background: Single Phase Power Solutions’ Written Pole® Technology is no novelty to the agriculture market. During 2005, Agri-View interviewed one of the many satisfied customers using the Written-Pole® Technology. This particular customer, named Mark Jensen, owns 525 acres of farmland in Waupaca County, Wisconsin and specializes in growing field corn, soybeans, snap beans, and sweet corn. Prior to purchasing the Written Pole® Technology, Jensen was using a costly diesel engine to irrigate his crops. The costs Jensen incurred while using his diesel engine compared to the newly purchased 100HP Written Pole® motor can be found below.
Results: During the year prior to purchasing a BELLE™ motor, it was costing Jensen $4.84/hour in diesel fuel and he was irrigating for 800 hours/year. His yearly total in diesel costs alone were $3,872. After converting to the 100HP electric Belle Motor, Jensen’s electricity bill was only costing $1.92/hour. When pumping for 800 hours at a cost of $1.92/hour, Jensen’s new annual costs were only $1,536. The BELLE™ motor supplied Jensen with an annual savings of $2,336.
Prior to purchasing the BELLE™ motor, Jensen also had to perform routine maintenance on his diesel engine such as oil and belt changes. At the time of this interview, Jensen had put over 2,000 hours on his BELLE™ motor with zero maintenance required.
