Harold Grall: Hasta Farms
Location: Dumas, TX
Background: In 2008, Harold Grall of Hasta Farms in Dumas, Texas was looking for a more cost-efficient alternative to powering his 60HP submersible pump. The pump originally used a natural gas engine coupled to a three-phase generator to irrigate 120 acres of corn and grain. Grall first considered installing a three-phase line to his farm but learned that this was not the most affordable option. Installation of a three-phase line would have cost Grall around $100,000 per mile and his farm is located roughly 2 miles from the nearest three-phase power grid. After considering his options, Grall decided to purchase one of our Written-Pole 1-3 Power Source Motors to irrigate his 120 acres of grain and corn fields. The 1-3 motor is composed of either a 50,75, or 100 HP single-phase motor that drives a conventional three-phase generator and supplies the necessary power for a three-phase application.
Results: In 2017, the 1-3 Written-Pole Motor was used for a total of 2,486 hours and is currently pumping 275 gallons per minute. Hasta Farms has had to perform zero maintenance on its 1-3 Written-Pole motor and Harold Grall is very pleased with the motor’s reliability.
