In rural areas where access to three-phase power is limited and a large horsepower solution is required, the BELLE Single-Phase Written-Pole Motor from Single Phase Power Solutions delivers. Available in horsepower ratings up to 100 HP the BELLE Motor Package delivers a reliable single-phase solution for large horsepower applications without the need for a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) or Phase Converter and can eliminate the cost of three-phase line extension. Ruggedly built these motors require virtually no maintenance and can save thousands over the cost of a stationary combustion engine.

The BELLE Motor™ utilizes patented Written-Pole® technology to deliver large-horsepower output from 230v or 460v single-phase lines. This revolutionary motor system allows operators to drive a variety of applications without the need for a Variable Frequency Drive or Phase Converter and without the prospect of costly 3-phase line installation.

Our synchronous, premium efficiency motor delivers as much as 96% efficiency and has an operating cost that is a fraction of combustion engines all with virtually no maintenance. Robustly designed our motors are built to withstand even the most demanding environments and feature Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled assemblies (TEFC), NEMA frame sizes as well as control panels in NEMA 3 enclosures.

Low Starting Current

BELLE Motors™ exhibit starting current less than 2x their rated running current, unlike conventional induction motors that have typical starting currents ranging from 6 to 10 times their rated current. This dramatically increases the maximum rating that may be started on rural single-phase systems.

Energy Efficient

BELLE Motors™ can operate at efficiencies higher than those of the best three-phase motors. This, together with the inherently low starting current, makes the motor the best choice for large single-phase applications.

Unity Power Factor

BELLE Motors™ have a power factor of 100% while a corosponding three-phase motor may be around 90%.

Instantaneous Restart

The low starting current and flexible characteristics of BELLE Motors™ allow them to undertake an instantaneous re-start after a momentary power interuption.

No Harmonic Distortion

By design the BELLE Motor™ does not utilize a phase converter or VFD and does not produce harmonic distortion. In fact its synchronous mode of operation can absorb harmonics off the line.

High Intertia Starting Capability

Since the BELLE Motors™ are capable of sustaining starting conditions for a much greater duration than conventional motors without overheating, they are able to start and synchronize very high intertia loads for a given rating. This capability is further enhanced by the ability to synchronize under load.

Single-Phase to Three-Phase Microgrids Available in 50 Hp 75 Hp and 100 Hp Configurations

Demand for three-phase power is growing much faster than the availability of three-phase service. Many agricultural, telecommunications, industrial and municipal applications are best powered by three-phase equipment. However, in most remote land areas, only single-phase service is available. The 1-to-3™ Power Source from BELLE™ Motors solves this problem. Using revolutionary Written-Pole® technology, the 1-to-3™ avoids high fuel and maintenance costs, and pollution of fossil-fuel- powered engines. It delivers superior power quality to that of conventional phase converters and is far more cost effective than extension of 3-phase to single phase utility customers, providing benefits across a broad spectrum of applications.

• Written-Pole® motors are well suited for conversion of single-phase to three-phase power. A Written-Pole® single-phase motor can drive a three-phase conventional generator to produce clean, balanced voltage.

• The single phase to 3 phase converter circuit can start multiple smaller 3-phase motors. The 1-to-3 Power Source™ can start a single motor up to about 50% of its rating and other smaller motors up to its output rating.

• Because of the high load synchronizing capability of the Written-Pole® drive motor, a large flywheel can be added to greatly improve the motor starting capability of the three-phase generator.

COST EFFECTIVE

The 1-to-3™ avoids the need for extending three-phase distribution. Where single-phase service already exists, upgrading the lines to three-phase typically costs $30K – $100K per mile. By using the 1-to-3™ to provide power for three-phase applications from existing single-phase service, utilities and their customers can save significant costs for investment in fixed assets.

SAVINGS

Many utilities charge monthly fees for three-phase availability (to amortize investments) whether or not the customer actually uses the power. Use of a 1-to-3™ can avoid over $12K to $60K per year for these charges. In addition, the Written-Pole® motor driving the 1-to- 3™ is highly efficient, resulting in full load efficiency exceeding 88%. This alone can reduce energy costs by thousands of dollars, year after year. And since the 1-to-3™ input runs at unity power factor, there is no power factor penalty charge. In some areas, this translates into significant additional savings.

LOW MAINTENANCE

The 1-to-3™ can be used effectively in place of the diesel or gas engines that are often used as the prime movers for pumps or generator sets. The Written-Pole® motor requires very little maintenance compared to engines. Air and noise pollution are also reduced. Most importantly, reliability is greatly improved.

POWER QUALITY

The 1-to-3™ allows weak single-phase lines to deliver strong three-phase power with excellent voltage regulation and precise 60 Hz frequency. The generator output voltage provides well-balanced three-phase power capable of starting and running large three-phase motors or power quality-sensitive electronic controls. This equipment isolates the application (and the utility) from harmonics that are harmful to sensitive loads.

EFFICIENCY


Written-Pole® motors start using only 1.7x their rated running current. This eliminates excess voltage sag or “flicker” that can cause problems on distribution lines. The efficiency rating of the motor is 95.5% and the generator efficiency is 93.5%, resulting in an overall efficiency of 89%, with 100% electrical isolation. With the 1-to- 3™ Power Source, customers served by single-phase lines can get high-quality power for three-phase applications. Unlike conventional phase converters, the 1-to-3™ provides true, balanced three-phase power, eliminates disruptive harmonic feedback, is a unity power factor load to the utility and, with an added flywheel, can ride through momentary power interruptions with ease.
